west coast first aid

First aid, as we all know, is an on-the-spot treatment given to someone with a medical emergency. The purpose is to reduce the impact of the injury and avoid future complications. First aid training courses can also prove to be life-saving in severe cases. First aid does not encompass a complete medical treatment; it is meant to stabilise the person in need and allow them time to seek full treatment at a medical facility. First aid expertise can be illustrated by acquiring a first aid certification. This certification is a prerequisite in many professions and can be acquired at WCFAT.

At WCFAT, many courses provide first aid training for amateurs. The APOLA Board of Education offers the education for the training you opt for. This article will take you through a course summary of the first aid training courses available at WCFAT.

Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a technique that aims to keep blood and oxygen flowing through the body when a person’s heart and breathing have halted. It includes external chest compressions and rescue breathing. Proper use of this technique can keep a person alive for six minutes after the heart has stopped beating. Learning CPR includes using a defibrillator (AED) and is recognised as a VET qualification.

HLTAID003/11 Provide First Aid

First aid can include everything from treating a minor wound to keeping someone’s heart beating during a heart condition. Whether for office or personal needs, WCFAT provides a full range of certified first aid training, such as HLTAID003/11 Provide First Aid (One Day) and HLTAID003/11 Provide First Aid (Two Days).

HLTAID007/15 – Provide advanced resuscitation

The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the skills and information required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in basic to complex situations.

HLTAID006/14 – Provide advanced first aid

This course will come in handy when you are required to prepare for an advanced first aid response, including managing the incident and other first aiders until medical assistance can be arranged. It is apt for workers who may be required to provide and manage first aid assistance in various situations and settings.

Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are devices that can save the lives of people having sudden heart attacks. This course trains people to use an AED so that they can be prepared to save a life whenever needed. The course can take place at schools, workplaces, churches, and medical and dental centres by forming groups of a minimum of eight people at the site. It is non-accredited but can be upgraded to HLTAID001, Provide CPR.

HLTAID004/12 Course

This course provides First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting and offers first aid courses that help you deal with situations where someone else’s life is at risk. The course teaches about the first aid responses for various emergencies like bleeding control, head injuries, poisoning, etc. Knowledge regarding the basic physiology and anatomy of a human being is also provided. No qualifications are required to enrol in this course; however, certain pre-course requirements must be fulfilled.

Beaches surround the Australian continent. Approximately 250 people drown every year. The presence of a first aid professional in such situations can bring this number down significantly. You never know when and how someone might need you to save their life, which is the purpose of the courses offered above. Life is precious, and we can guide you to safeguard someone’s life in an unexpected situation.
